Yesterday, we talked about getting people to comment. Today, we talk about the "Magic Moment" that happens right after: The DM (Direct Message).
When someone comments on your post, they are raising their hand and saying, "Hey, I’m interested!" This is the most important time to be a helpful human, not a pushy salesperson.
The goal of the DM is to move the conversation from a public "shout" to a private "chat." Here is how you do it without being "cringe":
Be Fast (But Real): Try to message them while they are still on their phone. Say something like: "Hey [Name]! Thanks for commenting 'GUIDE' on my post. I’m happy to share it with you!"
Send the Value First: Don't ask for their credit card or their life story. Just give them what you promised. "Here is the link to that PDF I mentioned: [Link]. I hope it helps you get started!"
Ask an Open Question: This is the secret. Don't just drop the link and run away. Ask a simple question to see how you can help. "By the way, what kind of digital product are you thinking about making?"
By asking a question, you start a real conversation. You’ll learn exactly what they are struggling with.
Sometimes, they will just say "Thanks!" and that’s okay. But often, they will tell you their problems. And because you’ve already given them a free gift, they trust you to give them the answer to their next question, too.
A comment is just a spark. The DM is where you build the fire.
Keep it friendly, keep it helpful, and remember: you aren't "closing a deal," you’re starting a relationship.
